PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Kult Plant Growth Regulator is a systemic PGR containing 250 g/L Paclobutrazol, used by turf managers and home gardeners across Australia to suppress Wintergrass (Poa annua), regulate vertical turf growth, and reduce trimming frequency on hedging plants.

Kult works by reducing internode lengths of new shoots. It slows vertical growth while allowing desirable turf species to dominate over time and keeping hedges in shape for longer between cuts.

Key Features

  • Suppresses and controls Wintergrass (Poa annua) in turf
  • Reduces vertical turf growth for a denser, more uniform finish
  • Enhanced greening and improved turf quality
  • Reduces trimming frequency on common Australian hedging species
  • Suitable for Bentgrass, Perennial Ryegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass and Green Couch
  • Systemic formulation - absorbed and translocated through the plant
  • Suspension concentrate - mix with water and apply by pressure sprayer or watering can

Turfgrass - Application Rates

Use Rate per 100m² Interval
Wintergrass suppression & control 16–22ml 2 spring or 1 autumn applications max
Turf growth regulation (low rate) 4ml Every 2–4 weeks
Turf growth regulation (medium–high rate) 8–16ml Every 4–8 weeks

Apply to dry or wet turf and water in immediately with 4–6mm of irrigation. Apply using a boom sprayer with flat fan nozzle

Coverage - 1L bottle:

Rate Coverage
4ml/100m² (growth regulation, low) Up to 2,500m²
16ml/100m² (growth regulation, high) Up to 625m²
22ml/100m² (Wintergrass suppression, max) Up to 454m²

How Kult Works on Wintergrass

Wintergrass suppression begins 1–2 weeks after application. At higher rates, Poa annua will yellow and its growth will slow or stop, allowing your desirable turf species to fill in the gaps. For best results, apply 1–2 weeks before Poa annua seed-head emergence to reduce seed-head visibility.

Important: Areas with greater than 70% Poa annua content will experience widespread discolouration. Reduce Poa annua content below 70% before applying at suppression rates.

Hedging Plants — Application Rates

Kult is registered for use on a range of common Australian hedging species, reducing trimming frequency once your hedge has reached its desired height and density.

Hedging Species Application Rate
Golden Duranta (Duranta repens) Root drench 1.5–2.5ml in 1L water per plant
Small Leaf Photinia (Photinia glabra) Root drench 1.5–2.5ml in 1L water per plant
Syzygium (Syzygium australe, Syzygium smithii) Root drench 1.5–2.5ml in 1L water per plant
Mock Orange (Murraya paniculata) Root drench 0.5–1.5ml in 1L water per plant

Apply in late winter to early spring at the start of a new season's flush of growth. Apply to the root system adjacent to the stem at ground level. Remove mulch first to ensure the product reaches the soil. Light irrigation after application is recommended.

Critical Notes for Hedging:

  • Do not apply to hedges less than 0.3m or greater than 2m in height
  • Do not prune until 4–6 weeks after application as apical growing points must remain intact
  • Do not apply to newly planted or recently transplanted hedging species
  • Do not repeat treat within 12 months
  • Always use the lower rate when applying for the first time
  • Do not allow plants to experience drought stress just before or after application

Restraints - Do Not Apply When:

  • Daytime temperatures are consistently above 32°C
  • Soils are waterlogged or saturated
  • Turf has been thinned by disease, insect damage, aeration or scarifying. In these situations wait until full recovery
  • Turf has been recently over-seeded. Wait until establishment, then use lower rates only

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Kult Plant Growth Regulator used for?

Kult is a systemic plant growth regulator containing 250 g/L Paclobutrazol. It is used to suppress and control Wintergrass (Poa annua) in turf, regulate vertical turf growth for a denser and greener lawn, and reduce trimming frequency on common Australian hedging species.

How does Kult work?

Kult works by reducing internode lengths of new shoots, slowing vertical growth. In turf this allows desirable grass species to dominate over Wintergrass. In hedging plants it maintains shape for longer between cuts.

How long does it take for Kult to work on Wintergrass?

Growth of Poa annua will be reduced 1–2 weeks after application. At higher rates Wintergrass will discolour yellow to brown and slow or stop growing, allowing desirable turf species to fill in.

What turf types is Kult safe to use on?

Kult is registered for use on Bentgrass, Perennial Ryegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass and Green Couch. It is not registered for use on Buffalo, Kikuyu or Zoysia.

What is the application rate for Wintergrass suppression?

Apply 16–22ml per 100m² for Wintergrass suppression and control. Do not exceed 2 spring or 1 autumn application per year.

How much area does a 1L bottle of Kult cover?

Coverage depends on application rate — at 4ml per 100m² (low growth regulation rate) a 1L bottle covers up to 2,500m². At 22ml per 100m² (maximum Wintergrass suppression rate) it covers up to 454m².

Can Kult be used on hedging plants?

Yes. Kult is registered as a root drench for Golden Duranta, Small Leaf Photinia, Syzygium and Mock Orange. Apply in late winter to early spring at the start of the new season's growth flush. Do not repeat treat within 12 months.
